Adolfo Girala is a contemporary mixed-media artist whose richly layered paintings explore beauty, tranquility, and mystery through color, texture, and abstraction. Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1962, Girala draws lasting inspiration from the vibrant colors of the Caribbean, the warmth of its landscapes, and the memories of his childhood.
After immigrating to the United States in 1980, Girala initially pursued a career in electronics before discovering painting as a powerful form of personal expression. Following a transformative spiritual experience in 1994, he began developing his artistic practice, embracing creativity as a journey of self-discovery and exploration.
Working with layers of transparent and translucent acrylic, Girala creates intricate compositions distinguished by dimensional surfaces, subtle color variations, and abstract patterns. His process often involves building up layers of paint and sanding back the surface to reveal unexpected colors and textures beneath, allowing each work to evolve organically. The resulting paintings balance complexity with harmony, inviting viewers into contemplative, immersive visual experiences.
Girala’s work has been exhibited extensively throughout the United States and internationally, including galleries in California, Arizona, Oregon, and the Caribbean. He has participated in the Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona, and his artwork has appeared in television and film productions.
Guided by intuition, spirituality, and a deep respect for the natural world, Girala approaches painting as an ongoing adventure in discovery. Through his distinctive visual language, he creates works that invite reflection, encourage connection, and celebrate the beauty and mystery of life.
“Through color, transparency, and layers, beauty becomes a quiet exploration of mystery.”
