Ellen Levine Dodd

Ellen Levine Dodd is a contemporary painter whose vibrant, richly textured works explore the beauty of the natural world, the emotional resonance of landscapes, and the expressive possibilities of color and form. Originally from Winthrop, a small New England coastal town near Boston, Dodd has pursued artistic exploration throughout her life, drawing inspiration from travel, personal experiences, and her observations of the world around her.

Dodd studied painting, photography, and printmaking at Clark University, the Massachusetts College of Art, and Sonoma State University in California. Her extensive travels throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East have profoundly influenced her artistic vision.

Working with layered materials, expressive brushwork, and a distinctive interplay of color and texture, Dodd creates dynamic compositions that combine abstraction, symbolism, and a deep appreciation for landscape preservation. Her process incorporates techniques such as scratching, sanding, carving, and drawing into painted surfaces, giving her work a sense of movement, depth, and emotional vitality.

Based in Novato, California, Dodd maintains an active studio practice and shares her knowledge through workshops and individual instruction. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is represented in private and corporate collections, including those of Kaiser Permanente, Sloan Kettering, and NorthBay Healthcare.

Through her expressive approach to painting, Dodd invites viewers to connect with the natural world and discover the beauty, complexity, and optimism found in everyday life.
