Teddie Hathaway is a contemporary glass artist whose work explores the beauty of water, air, and the natural environment through expressive color, texture, and form. Based in Sausalito, California, Hathaway transforms discarded glass into evocative works of art that reflect her commitment to environmental awareness and creative reuse.
After earning an MBA and pursuing a career in finance administration with the U.S. Congress, Hathaway began a new artistic chapter following retirement. She studied with established glass artists and explored a range of techniques before developing her distinctive approach to working with recycled glass, often salvaged from old windows and demolition sites.
Specializing in painting and kiln-casting float glass, Hathaway creates softly colored, somewhat abstract compositions through processes that include enameling, kiln casting, and sandblasting. Her work explores the interplay of translucent and opaque surfaces, contrasting textures, and subtle shifts in color. Inspired by the elements of water and air, her pieces invite viewers to discover their own emotional connections and interpretations.
Hathaway has studied and exhibited throughout the United States and internationally, including in Germany. Before relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area, she worked as a studio artist at Washington Glass Studio in Maryland, where she also began teaching in 2011. She has shared her expertise through workshops and instruction at several arts institutions, including The Crucible in Oakland.
Working from her studio aboard a houseboat in Sausalito, Hathaway continues to transform overlooked materials into distinctive works that celebrate the relationship between art, nature, and environmental responsibility.

Water Song series is created by using old window glass- one of the least recycled materials. The assembled vignettes are enameled on the back, kiln cast and may be sand blasted. The work is meant to focus on the wonder and beauty of our environment and our shared responsibility to care for it. The pieces in the series are designed to hang well alone or several to make a notable grouping.
