This exciting installation was inspired by Manet's painting titled, Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe. Sue's intent was to take the subject of Manet's painting and modernize it in both attitude and color.
In Manet's painting the woman in the center of the composition was looking very apprehensively at what seemed to be someone walking toward them. Sue's interpretation of the woman depicts her more confident, I know who I am attitude, while her eyes follow you as you move around to view her.
The painting is made on custom panels with varying depths. The lower to panels come off the wall to create a shelf that accommodates the 5 ceramic elements. These elements tie the composition together while adding to the dimensionality of the piece.
The image wraps around to all sides, telling the entire story of that sunny day by the lake. We would be happy to give you a virtual tour of the work so that you can experience the installation firsthand.
